After the holidays, how are you? The celebration of the Christmas and New Year season either bring so much stress or provide an opportunity for relaxation to mommies, or both. Now that the frenzy is over, it’s time for reality check. Moms need to go back to working, kids back to schooling, gardens need tending, and the home and everything in it needs cleaning and organizing, and God knows what needs to be done…
Mothers are the real-life ”superwomen” but remain to be humans to who get tired, stressed, and burned-out too. Often than not, they put aside the fact that there’s a need to balance their mothering, working, and personal life so they can continuously play the various roles and requirements of parenting. Usually so engrossed in mommying that they tend to set aside their own personal needs and wants.
Actually loving yourself is not bad at all. Keeping a balance in your life allow you to become a better person, thus, you are able to share more love and happiness to the people around you, especially your family. Care for yourself so you can live a healthier, happier life with your kids and the rest of the world. Here are some simple steps to help you achieve a a more relaxed and enjoyable life.
- Know your priorities. As we grow old and take on different roles, our priorities change too. What may matter to us a few years ago may not be important anymore. Clear the clutter of your life. Ponder on what matters, review your priorities and list them down. See whether you are putting too much time on activities that you realized you do not prioritize anymore or that you are ignoring what you must do for those you care about.
- Do things more efficiently. If you have regular routines, schedules, or work, organize them in a way that would save you time and energy. Make these routines a habit that you are used to doing without much effort so you can stay calm and worry-free the rest of the day.
- Be wary of the time. If you wanted to get organized, you must work with a schedule. Organized and efficient people always look at the clock to guide them in accomplishing their tasks and meeting their goals. Successful people keep planners/organizers, and wear watches or keep clocks (via cellular phones or on top of desks). Keeping an eye on the time allow you to focus on what you need to accomplish at a particular time and avoid drifting off to do something else.
- Take a break whenever you need it. Many people thinks that doing the work without a break or a gap is more productive. Yeah, it maybe is, if you’re not feeling too tired or too strained. However, if you’re already experiencing headache, eye strain or other physical pains, continuing the work without taking a break will worsen the condition and may lead to not being able to finish it at all. A 10 to 20 minute break is good to rest your tired eyes and body and rejuvenate your energy so you can rekindle your enthusiasm in accomplishing your task(s).
- Take time to do something you love. Take on an old or new hobby and find some time to do it to feel good about yourself. Doing something you like is also a form of relaxation. It puts you in the mood and makes you feel happy about your life. After a long day at work, pick up your guitar and hum a good song; finish the family scrapbook you’ve been doodling over for months; read a good book; enjoy a stroll in the park; go biking in the woods. Just do anything that will make you feel happy and glad that you’re alive.
- Reward yourself with sleep and treats. Be kind to yourself on weekends and get that long needed rest. Sleep, sleep and get more sleep! When you’re done getting that beauty rest, pamper yourself with a visit to the mall, a massage, a salon makeover, a quick bite at your favorite restaurant, a chat with a girlfriend… You are worth this much needed pampering so don’t feel guilty about it!
Life is a party and you must learn to dance with it, sing-alongside it, and blend with the other partygoers to enjoy and have fun! Moms need to learn, or relearn, living their personal life and enjoying it too because when they are fulfilled with their life, they are better mothers.
