Improving Marriage Towards Better Parenting

If parents are genuinely committed in creating a wonderful homelife for their children, the first step is to develop the relationship of the husband and wife. Teachers would often complain that majority of their time are consumed in parenting roles needed by students such as disciplining against bad behavior and actions, counselling, and parental care. Guidance counsellors on the other hand disclose that many of children’s psychosocial disorders root from the home.

To help children in developing positive perspectives about life and family, their parents must make an effort towards building a homey environment. This starts from creating a loving and harmonious relationship between the husband and wife. Their fights, squabbles, and even petty quarrels affect their children, directly or indirectly. Even when parents try to conceal the growing hostility in the relationship, their children would feel and know it through several manifestations such as their parents’ emotional outbursts, mood swings, and strange behaviors.

For this reason, this site is introducing a new section and page titled “Marriage at Work” which discusses marital issues and problems as well as tips and strategies to help couples resolve them.

It’s important that parents acknowledge their critical role in influencing and affecting the healthy development of their children. This development would allow young people towards blooming into fully functional adults who can handle and manage their personal issues, and interact with their social environment.  For your children’s mental and psychological maturity to ensue, you have to show them you have a strong and healthy marriage. It will build their confidence and trust in relationships and love.

Since it’s crucial for better parenting to establish and maintain a good marriage, this site is committed to helping New Moms do just that. Learn, love, and enjoy family life.

Visit regularly the marriage at work page and better yet, share with us your own tips and experiences on marital life that new moms out there can learn from to improve their own marriages. Our email is newmoms101 (at) yahoo (dot) com.

Preserving Family Memories

Family life is very exciting and full of memories mommies would want to preserve. Remains to be the most popular form of preservation of special moments is through photography. Photos help us remember the joys and triumphs of our lives and for mommies like me, snapshots serve as a reminder of how blessed we are for becoming mothers.

There are new ways of keeping print memorabilia in contrast to the conventional and dull counterpart of simply putting them in photo albums. See if you’re familiar with any of these –

1. Creating a video, flash or slide presentation using the available photos.

Usually, video or flash presentations are made to be shown during special occasions such as reunions, birthdays, and weddings. If you have a budget, you can have it made by a professional but if you’re tight, it can be done by an amateur, say… you! All you need are photographs, scanner, and a computer with applications such as Microsoft’s PowerPoint or MovieMaker. See tutorials for using these applications here.

2. Uploading them in free photo uploading and social networking sites.

Maximize the use of free internet storage sites for photos for two reasons: (1) for instantly sharing them with family and friends from out of town or even out of the country; and (2) for instant online backup of your photos in case you lose the original prints or soft copy. The most well-liked photo uploading sites are Flickr, Photobucket and Tumblr while popular social networking sites are Facebook, Multiply, and MySpace.

3. Crafting a creative and striking manual or digital scrapbook!

Instead of just putting your pictures inside those dull and lifeless photo album sleeves, make time to create a family scrapbook with concepts or themes, either in manual or digital format. A scrapbook is an organized collection of pictures, clippings, notes, and other memorabilia which can be placed in a purchased scrapbook album or a hand-made book usually with applied designs using scrapbook embellishments. Because of the popularity of scrapbooks, bookstores and department stores are now selling scrapbooking albums and materials. For those who are a little techy and love graphic designing, digital scrapbooking is for you. The minimum requirement is a computer where your photos are stored. You may design your digiscrap, sometimes called computer scrapbook, using particular applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Paint or Corel, using downloadable embellishments, on the web. For those who wanted instant digital scrapbook using templates where all they need to do are insert photos in, you may use free or paid downloadable scrapbooking software. You may also become members of online digital printers which provide free scrapbooking creators where you can immediately order the print format of your creation.

Scrapbooking, may it be using scissors and glue or with monitor and mouse, is definitely more appealing than its regular, dull photo album counterpart. It will surely attract interest of onlookers especially if it’s designed conscientiously and creatively.

Aside from keeping a softcopy of your memorabilia in a hard disk or USB stick, it’s also good if you’ll keep an online backup so if anything unforeseen happens such as occurrence of a disaster, you will not lose the keepsakes of your family life.
